Of Manual

Koffler Art Center nstallation view
2018

Of Manual is a four-part textile work that merges symbols, icons and game pieces from classic board games into a series of all-encompassing arsenals. Each work is mounted on moveable, dolly-like platforms that can be quartered and scrambled to form different game board configurations; however, the strategic design of the carpets, and the way they are separated into distinct parts, restricts the player from ever achieving the possibility of winning move. The work considers the impact of games as tools for teaching social conformity and adaptation, and positions board games as something akin to a civic master plan—where all aspects of infrastructure and their intersecting impacts may be considered at a single glance.
