Construction, Deferred

Mixed-media sculptures
2023

This work presents a distorted reconfiguration of a playground structure—an assemblage that alludes to slides, ladders, and frames but no longer functions as intended. Deformed and suspended between recognition and abstraction, it refuses completion or use. There is no clear beginning or end, no winner or resolution.

By removing functionality, the sculpture transforms from a space of action into one of contemplation. The familiar language of design—meant to enable order, movement, and progress—collapses into uncertainty. The viewer is invited to engage not through participation but through interpretation, navigating absence and possibility.

The work proposes failure as both subject and structure, exposing the fragility of systems built around purpose and play. Its fragmented geometry suggests a psychological and spatial state where instruction and outcome dissolve, allowing for a different kind of awareness to emerge. Through this tension between design and dysfunction, the sculpture becomes a meditation on potentiality and the human desire to find meaning within disorder. What remains is an architecture of thought—an open field of imagination, restraint, and suspended motion.
